Self Hypnosis For Change

Become the Master of Your Habits

When you think about habits, if you're like the rest of us, you probably focus on the behaviors that you would like to stop doing. And when you think of habits you probably think about good habits and bad habits. But those two habits combined are equal to a very small percentage of the overall number of habits we create over a lifetime.

Most of our habits are utilitarian habits. Behaviors that are not considered good or bad. They are just behaviors that free us up to do many more important things that require a conscious decision. Habits are unconscious processes. So the major benefit to creating habits is they allow us to get more done. It's like a robot on an assembly line, it just does it over and over again without much input or re programming.

In order to learn how to change a habit you need to know how to create a habit. Habits are created through repetition. Doing any behavior, having any thought, feeling any feeling, repeatedly will create a habit to that thought, feeling or behavior. Yes, we have habits of thought, behavior and feelings. So if you're unhappy with what you are doing, thinking or feeling, you can reprogram your mind with different thoughts, feelings and behaviors. And the quickest way of doing that is with self hypnosis.

There are many ways of guiding yourself into self hypnosis. Some better than others, and everyone can find a preferred way that works best for them. Here's one simple method of doing self hypnosis. Sit in a comfortable chair and take a deep breath and hold it. Hold it for about 3 seconds and when you let it out close your eyes. Simply focus on your breathing, and imagine yourself walking downhill into a lush garden of relaxation. When you feel sufficiently calm and relaxed start to imagine that you are performing a behavior, experiencing a feeling, or having a thought that you want to become your automatic response.

By using your mind to mentally rehearse this new response you are becoming familiar with it. And you are teaching your inner mind exactly what it is that you want. You are letting your unconscious/subconscious mind know that this new response is important and desirable to you.
Repetition is the creator of habits. So use your imagination to envision this scene over and over again during the duration of this self hypnosis session which should last about 3 minutes or so.
Again, repetition is what makes this work, so find the time each day to do this self hypnosis process a number of times. That's right, a number of times each day repeat your self hypnosis work. Work with one image at a time. Focus on creating that one solution or new behavior until it feels right for you.
