Time Management Tips for Busy Women

Aha! You're one of those women who have a lot on your plate. And it takes quite a bit of effort to get through it every single day, doesn't it?

Is there anything you can do to make things easier for yourself? Is there anyway you get can to handle a lighter load right at the peak hour? The prime time, when you're running from pillar to post trying to do what the legendary superman (or should we say super woman?) does.

What are the simple tricks we need to know to do things in a smarter way? Here are a few tips.
  • Have a hairstyle that requires minimum maintenance. Hair that needs to be coaxed and curled and cajoled often in order to look good isn't for the busy woman of today. Get a style that will require no more than a few flicks of the brush and a shampoo twice a week. High maintenance hairstyles eat into your time.
  • Lay out your clothes for the next day. If you're working woman, every moment is a precious one in the mornings. Just before you go to bed, plan your outfit for the next day. Pick out the accessories as well. Check to see if the hooks buttons and clasps are still in working condition. You'll save yourself a lot of time.
  • Don't go about rummaging in your kitchen and refrigerator in the last minute. Plan your menu ahead - make sure you have all the necessary ingredients ready. Cut your vegetables and do your blending and grinding before time. You just have to put it together when you need it.
  • Learn to deep freeze and store your foodstuff ready for cooking
  • Do all your shopping at one go. Visit malls and shopping areas that will provide you with all that you need. You need one-stop shops.
  • Do make use of car pools and school buses, which will help take a burden off you.
  • Buy plenty of fruits and salad vegetables that serve as quick snacks.
  • Get reliable domestic help. Delegate a lot of stuff that is stressing you out.
Remember, the better you manage your time, the better your life will be.

Optimising time

Once you recognise which activities are crucial to you - you can use time to your benefit.

Ask yourself these questions:
  • Which are the tasks that are important to you?
  • Which time of the day do you feel most energetic in?
  • Do you know when your energy flags?
These three criteria are of immense importance. They need to inter link in order to do more with the time you have on your hands.

In short, what we are trying to say is - do the tasks that are important to you at the time when your energy and your enthusiasm are at their highest levels. Vital activities will be done better and quicker.

Put aside smaller, not so important tasks during your low energy phases. Even if you take a little longer over it and not do as good a job as you probably could have - it's okay. It's a lot better than comprising on what's important.

It's important to remember that a daily workout and a well balanced diet will increase energy levels substantially. It will certainly help you manage your time better.

Focusing totally on the task at hand improves your ability to do the task well and within time constraints. Distractions work to your detriment. Keep off phone calls, meetings and other diversions for at least a couple of hours every day. Use the time to concentrate purely on getting important tasks to be done.
Set yourself a goal everyday (the amount of work you'll accomplish each day). Make sure you finish it - and finish it well.

These simple tips will help you not to waste time.
